Bertus van Schalkwyk is an innovative engineer, project manager, and businessman with a solid track record. He has been living in Somerset West, South Africa since 1993, where he is active and well-known within the community.
In the early years of his career he worked as an electronics design engineer in the high-tech military, aviation, and aerospace industries. He designed state-of-the-art electronic equipment integrated into systems that had to withstand the harshest environments, including space.
Later, he transitioned into the role of Project Manager in the Defence Industry. In this capacity, he was responsible for contractual and financial matters related to several multi-million Rand projects while managing and motivating in-house teams and external contractors to deliver project milestones on time and within budget. This experience enabled Bertus to smoothly transition into other sectors of business and industry.
In 2011, he accepted the position as Managing Director of Organic Water Solutions (Pty) Ltd and in 2013 became the Managing Director of Sigmacor Construction. In 2015, he directed his energy into his own Project Management company, initially focusing on construction with www.amavaprojects.co.za
In 2019, building on his experience in the military and space industries he started AmavaTech with the vision to combine custom, state-of-the-art engineering with IoT (Internet of Things), thereby producing cost-effective solutions that increase the efficiencies of customer operations and reduce operational costs.
In 2021 AmavaTech developed an IoT remote monitoring and control system called ReMac that integrates, not only with recent internet-connected equipment, but also with legacy equipment that lacks internet connectivity.
